Staff Full Stack Engineer (Remote):

In this job, you'll be a key member of the Wurl Channels Engineering team that’s building and maintaining the systems responsible for ingesting, transcoding, and storage of video content for all of Wurl’s streaming and VOD channel deliveries.  Challenges of this position include creating video renditions at scale, managing auxiliary files (images, closed captions etc.), defining and implementing media retention policies, and maintaining a high standard of quality control for all incoming and generated media.

As a hands-on engineering leader, you will:

• Design, implement and deliver innovative features that scale with Wurl’s media network.
• Evaluate and integrate 3rd party software to enhance Wurl’s product portfolio
• Build highly secured and reliable software that runs 24x7 that is cloud native
• Collaborate with project managers, product managers, solutions architects, other engineering teams and support for productization of new software services and features
• Champion innovation, take ownership and lead cross functional collaboration as projects demand.
• Lead, mentor and coach junior engineers 

Who you are:

• Minimum 10 years of complete web-based, software lifecycle experience, including design, architecture, and implementation of software features.
• Minimum 3 years experience with Javascript frameworks such as React, Angular 6+; or with Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
• Minimum 3 years of experience designing and implementing microservices architecture.
• Experience working with AWS services - EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3, EKS.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including documenting software design and process.
• Deep knowledge of software engineering design principles and processes, including Test Driven Development
• Experience with CI/CD, CDK, infrastructure as code.
• Experience with Scrum Agile and Scrum ceremonies. 

Bonus points for:

• Familiarity with video formats and encoding 
• Experience with open-source encoding/decoding/transcoding software like FFmpeg
• An understanding of video delivery standards (HLS, MP4, RTMP, DASH, MRSS, MP-TS, RTMP)
